For years, I only focused on architecture, shadow, and rhythm- frames without figures. I would wait patiently as everyone would vacate the frame before clicking the shutter for every single photograph. I liked the clarity, and the silent aesthetics of a frame uncluttered by human presence. But during the pandemic, the absence of people stopped feeling aesthetic. It felt personal. Like something had been taken from me. Taking photos in Florence and not being able to find anyone anymore creeping into my frames just felt depressing. I actually wanted to take photos with people, and no one was there.
That shift changed the way I see public space. This collection is built around those moments- when a person passes through, when a figure holds a scene together, or when the human presence is what gives the structure meaning.
These aren’t portraits. They’re not staged. They’re the same kind of compositions I’ve always made- just now with someone, or a group of people inside them. A person crossing a piazza. A silhouette under an archway. A moment where the scene would feel too empty without people.
Every image in this collection is available as a museum-quality fine art print. Printed with archival pigment on carefully selected paper, they hold their tone and detail over time. These are works that carry mood—not noise—and offer presence without pulling focus.
This series isn’t about documenting people. It’s about how their lack of presence in my life forever changed the way I see and experience the world.
