After years of shooting with Canon’s 5D Mark IV, I was beyond ready to upgrade to the Canon R5 Mark II. The hype was real, and I couldn’t wait to take it out for a spin. But what I didn’t expect? To feel totally overwhelmed.
I’ve been a travel photographer for over 15 years. My DSLR cameras are second nature to me- like an extension of myself. Picking up the R5 Mk II honestly made me feel like a beginner again. The electronic viewfinder felt super foreign. I remember first seeing it and thinking,
“Wow, this is going to be fun.”
That was almost immediately followed by the realization that actually… this was going to be hard.
Some of the key settings I’m used to were different, and even small things, like how the display turns on and off with a proximity sensor, which with both the LDC and EVF being digital completely threw me off.
