Seal Beach is (was?) a big, big part of my childhood. It’s just a stone’s throw, literally from Long Beach, where I was born, with the San Gabriel River being the only thing separating the two. I went to elementary school at McGaugh Elementary, daycare at Camp Marina, and did all of my schooling in the Los Alamitos School District.

I recently decided to challenge myself with a hike through one of my favorite stretches of Liguria, Italy. The twist was that I could only take photographs using the first camera I ever bought- the Canon Rebel XTI from 2006, complete with its original 18-55mm kit lens, and absolutely no editing allowed afterward.
The first time I went to Camogli, I had zero expectations. I didn’t Google it. I didn’t have a plan. I just started walking—classic me. And when I reached the entrance of the town, up on a hill before you descend a staircase into the main part of Camogli, I stopped. Right away, I felt it. I didn’t know what I was walking into, but I knew it was going to be something special.
In the year leading up to our wedding in Florence in November 2023, I spent a lot of time exploring different towns throughout Italy, trying to find the right place for us to move after we got married. Just a couple of months before the wedding, I stumbled across Recco.
